Sea lion rescued in Ocean Beach gets released

9 July 2010 No Comment

The sky was heavy and dark, but the mood was light Thursday as a young sea lion rescued last May from beneath a police car in Ocean Beach was returned to the sea.

Nicknamed “Cop Car,” the year-old marine mammal was the picture of health as he dove without hesitation back into same water that he crawled out of some two months ago, tired, hungry and dehydrated.

The pup was one of 154 animals taken in by specialists at the SeaWorld Animal and Rescue Rehabilitation Program since January. He and three other rescued young sea lions were released about 10:45 a.m. about three miles off the coast of La Jolla Cove.
