Placement of guide lines at dive sites

16 September 2010 No Comment

Due to the formation of the reefs in Dahab many popular dive sites required divers to walk over the reef table to reach entry points to these sites, to minimise the impact of divers to the reef we have begun to place guide lines leading from the shore to the entry point. The first one to be completed was the Islands, these flotation lines are made using plastic bottles, which are disposed of in massive quantities in Dahab, a small town with no recycling facilities. The bottles were painted with the help of local children, helping to raise awareness and involve them in local environmental projects. We would like to express our thanks to the children and teachers, Jessica Bouwmeester and Gihan Omar of Futures School and apologies to the parents for sending their children home covered in red paint!!  We also plan to place these guidelines at Eel Garden and replace the one stolen from the lighthouse, providing a safe boundary line for divers, snorkellers and windsurfers.
