Background
RED SEA RESEARCH diver courses are designed to enable both experienced and recently qualified recreational divers to take part in marine research projects and do so with the minimum of additional on-site training or supervision. Scuba courses can be provide for non-divers and will require an additional 7 days.
RED SEA RESEARCH staff will teach students to understand the terminology, procedures and methodology of data collection to the standards required by the International Marine research authorities. We also train students in the safety, planning, methodology and the practical applications of Lift-bag use relevant to environmental projects, and a basic knowledge of tropical marine ecology.
Our courses will increase a student’s environmental awareness while promoting organisational skills, problem solving abilities, self confidence and the social and technical skills needed to allow a student to work as a part of a Marine scientific research team.
Pre-requisite
Students must provide proof of certification to dive to 20 metres, with a minimum of 20 logged dives. Scuba courses can be provided to non divers if required. Proof of certification and log book must be presented upon enrolment.
Certification
A RED SEA RESEARCH diploma will be awarded for each module successfully completed with a log book to record the modules, specialised courses completed, and any surveys or research projects on which they have actively participated. A RED SEA RESEARCH ID card will be awarded to all students upon completing the basic skills practised in modules 1-4. The certification fee is applicable once only as courses are recorded in the logbook and updated in the RED SEA RESEARCH members database. The RED SEA RESEARCH certification is validated by renewing your annual membership, if a Research diver does not log any research dives within 2 years a refresher course will be required to learn updated techniques and skills. A student can improve their skills by completing additional modules, becoming an active volunteer or enroling in one of our speciality courses.
Hyperbaric Tender Course
In collaboration with Dr Adel Taher we also offer a Hyperbaric Tender course, this can be done as an individual module or as part of a package deal. This course includes academic and practical sessions and will provide the participant with knowledge in Pathophysiology of decompression, management of diving accidents in remote areas specifically in the Red Sea, Neurological examinations of patients and the use of the decompression chamber.
